Wispr Flow 是什么

先用一两句话说清楚。

Wispr Flow is a dictation app from Wispr AI, Inc. that types cleaned-up speech into any app on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android. After raising $280 million in August 2026 it moved users to Canto, its own speech model, following spring accuracy complaints. Pro costs $12 to $15 a month; free use is capped weekly; Wispr offers no offline mode.

主要功能

它能做什么,每项一句话,以及我们有没有实测。

  • Dictation into any text field

Hold a shortcut (Fn on Mac, Ctrl+Win on Windows), speak and release; Flow pastes the text where the cursor is. On iPhone it is a keyboard, on Android a floating bubble beside your usual keyboard.

Per Wispr's help center; desktop pastes the finished text after you stop, with no live word-by-word transcript, and every platform needs an internet connection.

  • AI cleanup and per-app styles

Removes filler words, applies spoken corrections such as '4 pm, actually 3 pm', formats lists and sets Formal, Casual or Very casual styles for email, work chat and personal messages.

Per Wispr's homepage and Context Awareness article. Baseten, which hosts the cleanup step, says Wispr uses fine-tuned Llama models for it.

  • Canto speech model

Wispr's first in-house speech recognition model, rolled out to all users on September 17, 2026, with nothing to switch on.

Wispr's own English evaluation puts Canto at 3.4% word error rate against 3.6% for Gemini 3.1 Pro and 4.0% for OpenAI GPT Transcribe; searches on November 3, 2026 turned up no independent benchmark of Canto.

  • Context Awareness

Reads text around the cursor, on-screen text, the app and website you are in, and names in coding apps, to spell proper nouns and match casing and tone.

On by default on Mac, Windows and iPhone, per Wispr's help center, which says it works from text and does not take screenshots; it can be turned off on desktop, not on iPhone.

  • Dictionary, snippets and 100+ languages

Learns names and jargon, expands spoken snippet triggers into saved text, and dictates in more than 100 languages, one language per dictation.

Per Wispr's help center, 23 languages are identified from speech; others, such as Urdu, Hebrew, Ukrainian and Czech, must be selected by hand. Pro shares dictionaries and snippets across a team.

  • Command Mode

Hold a second shortcut and speak an instruction to rewrite selected text, draft a reply or search the web.

Per Wispr's help center: Mac and Windows, off by default, paid plans and trials only; searches open in Perplexity and the text box contents are sent with the command.

  • Coding features

Recognises variable and function names visible in Cursor, Windsurf and VS Code, and turns spoken file names into @-tags in Cursor and Windsurf chat.

Per Wispr's help center: variable recognition needs the IDE's screen-reader mode; file tagging works only in Cursor and Windsurf chat panels; available on all plans.

  • Notetaker for meetings

Records meetings from your computer's audio without a bot joining, then writes transcripts, summaries and action items you can query or pass to Claude, ChatGPT and other tools over MCP.

Launched on Mac on August 5, 2026 (TechCrunch) and on Windows on September 15 (Wispr); free accounts get a weekly meeting limit, and Notetaker is blocked once a HIPAA BAA is signed.

适合谁

它帮得上谁、解决什么问题、在哪个榜单里。

适合

  • People who write long emails, messages and documents all day on a Mac or Windows PC
  • Developers who dictate prompts into Cursor, Windsurf, Claude Code or Codex
  • People for whom typing is painful, such as those with RSI or arthritis
  • Multilingual users who switch languages between messages
  • Small teams that want shared dictionaries, SSO and a HIPAA BAA without a sales call

解决的问题

  • Built-in dictation that breaks on pauses and keeps filler words and false starts
  • Typing long, context-heavy prompts for AI chat and coding tools
  • Names, jargon and product terms that generic speech recognition mishears
  • Wanting the same dictation tool on desktop and phone

擅长什么

别人公开做过的测试:给了它什么、结果怎样。

  1. 案例 1

In Cult of Mac's January 31, 2026 review, Rajesh Pandey used Wispr Flow for about a month on a Mac mini and a MacBook Pro

    输入

Articles, Slack messages and AI prompts dictated through a low-gain Rode microphone sitting more than an arm's length away with music playing, and whispered dictation in a cafe.

    结果

He reports it caught his voice accurately in both setups and rarely repeated a mistake once corrected, while noting that audio goes to Wispr's servers. One reviewer, writing before the spring 2026 accuracy problems and before Canto.

  2. 案例 2

In Android Police's February 25, 2026 review, Sanuj Bhatia used the new Android app for about a week

    输入

More than 3,000 words of emails, messages and the review itself, dictated through the floating bubble on several Android phones while keeping Gboard as the keyboard.

    结果

He called it the best voice typing he had used across devices, allowing that Gboard's offline typing on a Pixel may be better. He noted it stops without a connection, and the unlimited free use he had was a launch offer: Android free accounts are now capped at 3,000 words a week.

  3. 案例 3

In How-To Geek's April 26, 2026 comparison, Jorge A. Aguilar ran seven voice typing apps on Windows over several weeks

    输入

Everyday dictation into Windows apps, including Microsoft Teams.

    结果

Wispr Flow used about 800 MB of RAM at idle, took 8 to 10 seconds to start and made punctuation and grammar mistakes in Teams; he still named it, with Superwhisper, as a pick for developers and power users.

  4. 案例 4

On Hacker News on June 15, 2026, a developer at a competing dictation app re-ran a fixed test set through Wispr Flow a month apart

    输入

525 recordings of one American-English speaker whispering AI-written sentences, played through a virtual microphone in May and again in June 2026.

    结果

Word error rate rose from 9.0% to 11.2% and got worse in 8 of 9 categories; one sentence about refactoring auth middleware came back about 'odd metalware'. One voice, and the tester sells a rival app, but it matches what Wispr admitted in its June changelog.

  5. 案例 5

Superwhisper, a competitor, drove the real Wispr Flow app through its 8-dataset speech benchmark with cleanup switched off

    输入

Clips from AMI meetings, Common Voice, Earnings-22, LibriSpeech and four other sets, run on August 3 and August 27 to 28, 2026, before Canto rolled out.

    结果

Flow averaged 8.7% word error rate and 1.28 seconds to text, behind Superwhisper S1 Voice (6.6%), ElevenLabs Scribe v2 (7.5%) and OpenAI GPT Transcribe (7.8%) and ahead of Deepgram Nova 3 (10.1%). Superwhisper sells the top model, and raw output skips the cleanup Flow is bought for.

  6. 案例 6

In April 2026 a software engineer examined the Mac app (version 1.4.752) after the spacebar stopped working, and published the findings

    输入

The app's own logs, local database and code-signing entitlements, read over about 30 hours of normal use.

    结果

The keyboard hook swallowed 145 spacebar presses in ten minutes because it thought the dictation shortcut was held; logs listed 1,688 app and URL events, and a 694 MB local database held 198 MB of audio. One machine and an older version; Wispr's help center now documents the app and URL sending.

短板

做得不好的地方和证据,以及我们还没法定论的地方。

做得不好

做得不好

  • Reliability and accuracy dropped in mid-2026.

证据: Wispr's changelog admits outages from vendor failures and its own scaling in early June 2026, an Auto Cleanup setting that was too aggressive, and dictations handled by older models. TechCrunch reported user complaints about a quality dip in August; a competitor's re-test measured word errors rising from 9.0% to 11.2%.

  • The privacy defaults favour Wispr.

证据: 'Improve the model for everyone' is on by default for Free and Pro and Context Awareness is on by default. With training off, Flow still uploads word counts, app names, URLs and timestamps, and on desktop still sends the app name and website domain with every dictation.

  • The free tier is small on phones.

证据: Per Wispr's help center, iPhone dictation slows after 550 words a week and is blocked at 750; Android slows after 2,500 and stops at 3,000; Mac and Windows warn at 2,000 and block above 5,000. Command Mode needs a paid plan or trial.

  • The desktop app is heavy and its input handling has broken.

证据: How-To Geek measured about 800 MB of RAM at idle and an 8 to 10 second start on Windows. A forensic write-up of the Mac app logged 145 swallowed spacebar presses in ten minutes. A Google Play reviewer and Wispr's help center both describe Android falling back to the clipboard instead of inserting text.

  • Its compliance record had to be rebuilt in 2026.

证据: In March 2026 Wispr replaced Delve, the compliance platform behind its earlier SOC 2 work, after TechCrunch reported allegations that Delve produced fake compliance evidence; Wispr then hired A-LIGN for new audits.

  • Refunds are not promised.

证据: The terms updated August 19, 2026 say refunds are issued only if required by law, and the help center says there is no automatic prorated refund on cancellation.

  • Not for offline, air-gapped or non-US data work, or for unsupported devices.

证据: Wispr's enterprise privacy page, checked November 3, 2026, says it offers no offline, on-premises or private-tenant version and stores data in the United States on AWS. Its system requirements list iPad, Linux, Chromebooks, virtual machines and Windows on ARM as unsupported.

尚不确定

尚不确定

  • How much Canto improved accuracy.

原因: The only Canto numbers are Wispr's own, on English recordings from users who opted into data sharing; the competitor benchmarks that put Flow behind rivals were run before Canto rolled out on September 17, 2026.

  • Which outside AI models process dictation, and for how long they keep it.

原因: Wispr's Data Controls page says third-party AI providers are under zero data retention agreements for dictation, while its enterprise privacy page says processors generally delete data within 30 days; neither page, checked November 3, 2026, names the providers, and Wispr points to its Trust Center for the list.

  • What a free account really gets.

原因: The pricing page says only 'Limited words per week'; the help center gives per-platform numbers but also says allowances differ by account and can change without an app update, and that Android's in-app text may still show a 1,000-word limit.

  • Whether the audits cover Notetaker.

原因: Wispr's privacy page says its SOC 2 Type II report covers every Wispr product; its help center says Notetaker launched after the audit periods and was not assessed.

常见问题

先给结论,再讲原因、例子、限制和下一步。

Is Wispr Flow free?

Wispr Flow has a free plan with a weekly word cap, and Pro removes the cap for $12 a month billed annually or $15 month to month. Per Wispr's help center, Mac and Windows show a limit notice at 2,000 words and block new dictations above 5,000; Android slows at 2,500 and stops at 3,000; iPhone slows at 550 and stops at 750. The count resets weekly, and new accounts get a 14-day Pro trial.

限制

The pricing page only says 'Limited words per week', and Wispr says allowances differ by account and can change without an app update.

How much does Wispr Flow cost?

Wispr Flow Pro costs $15 per user a month, or $12 a month billed annually; Growth is $23 a month ($18 annually) and $33 ($26) with unlimited Notetaker. Enterprise is priced by sales and billed annually. Students with an .edu email get three months of Pro, then $6 a month billed annually.

限制

Refunds are issued only where the law requires, per the terms updated August 19, 2026.

Does Wispr Flow take screenshots of my screen?

No, according to Wispr: its help center says Context Awareness works from text and does not take screenshots. It does read text near your cursor, on-screen text, and the app and website you are in, and it is on by default. Even with it off, the desktop app sends the app name and website domain with each dictation.

限制

A forensic write-up of the Mac app in April 2026 found a screenshot field in its local database that was not being filled, alongside logs of app names and URLs.

下一步

Turn Context Awareness off in Settings, Data and Privacy; Wispr's help center says iPhone has no switch for it.

Is Wispr Flow safe for confidential or medical dictation?

Wispr Flow can be set up for medical dictation, but only after you change its defaults: sign the in-app HIPAA Business Associate Agreement and turn off model training and dictation cloud storage. Audio is always processed in Wispr's cloud in the United States, and on Free and Pro your dictations may train its models unless you opt out.

限制

Per its help center, Wispr does not countersign the BAA and a signed BAA blocks Notetaker; and Wispr rebuilt its audits in 2026 after leaving the compliance platform Delve.

Does Wispr Flow work offline?

Wispr Flow does not work offline: Wispr's help center and enterprise privacy page, checked November 3, 2026, say every dictation is transcribed on its servers and that no offline, on-premises or private-tenant version is offered. For offline dictation, Superwhisper's free tier with local Whisper models, VoiceInk or the open-source Handy run on your own computer.

Does Wispr Flow work on Android, Windows, iPad or Linux?

Wispr Flow runs on Mac, Windows 10 and 11 (x64 only), iPhone and Android 13 or later; its system requirements, checked November 3, 2026, list iPad, Linux, Chromebooks and Windows on ARM as unsupported. Android launched on February 23, 2026, as a floating bubble that works beside your usual keyboard; iPhone uses a Flow keyboard.

限制

Android tablets and foldables may work but are not optimised, and Notetaker runs only on Mac and Windows.

What is Canto in Wispr Flow?

Canto is Wispr's first in-house speech recognition model, rolled out to every Flow user on September 17, 2026. On Wispr's own set of English dictations it scored 3.4% word error rate, against 3.6% for Gemini 3.1 Pro and 4.0% for OpenAI GPT Transcribe; on a harder noisy set it was second to Gemini 3.1 Pro.

限制

These are Wispr's figures on its own users' recordings; searches on November 3, 2026 turned up no independent benchmark of Canto.

Did Wispr Flow get worse in 2026?

Yes, for a while: Wispr's changelog admits outages and lower accuracy between late May and early July 2026, and TechCrunch reported user complaints about a quality dip when the company raised money in August. Wispr blamed vendor failures, its own scaling, an over-aggressive Auto Cleanup setting and older models handling some dictations.

限制

Wispr says the fixes and the Canto model have since rolled out; whether accuracy is back has only Wispr's own numbers behind it so far.

Wispr Flow vs Apple Dictation: is it worth paying?

Wispr Flow is worth paying for if you dictate long, rambling text and want it cleaned up; Apple Dictation is free and can process general dictation on your device. Cult of Mac's reviewer found Mac dictation broke whenever he paused to think, while Flow handled pauses, corrections and filler words.

限制

Apple's option keeps more on the device, and with Apple Intelligence in macOS 27 an on-device model improves punctuation in English on M3 and later Macs with 12 GB of memory.

Wispr Flow vs Superwhisper or Willow: which should I pick?

Pick Superwhisper for offline use and a lifetime licence, Willow if its own latency claims matter to you and you are on Mac, Windows or iPhone, and Wispr Flow for the same tool on Android plus coding and meeting features. Superwhisper is $8.49 a month or $249.99 lifetime with free local models; Willow is $12 to $15 a month with a free tier on a weaker model.

限制

Both rivals publish benchmarks where they beat Flow, and both ran them before Canto; treat them as vendor tests.

Does Wispr Flow work with Cursor and VS Code?

Wispr Flow works with Cursor, Windsurf and VS Code on Mac and Windows, recognising variable and function names visible in the editor and turning spoken file names into @-tags in Cursor and Windsurf chat. Per Wispr's help center, variable recognition needs the IDE's screen-reader mode turned on and file tagging does not work in VS Code or GitHub Copilot chat.

Can I get a refund from Wispr Flow?

Only if the law requires it: Wispr's terms say refunds are issued only when required by law. Its help center says cancelling keeps Pro until the end of the billing period with no automatic prorated refund; support may still review requests, and App Store purchases go through Apple.

This review is built from what could be checked on November 3, 2026: Wispr's own site, pricing page, help center, terms, privacy pages and changelog; its Canto research post; reporting by TechCrunch and Outlook Business; reviews by Cult of Mac, Android Police and How-To Geek; benchmarks published by two competitors, Superwhisper and Willow; user reports on Hacker News and Google Play; an independent forensic write-up of the Mac app; and the alternatives' own pricing pages. Each piece of evidence says who produced it, and the numbers Wispr gives about itself are labelled as its own.

What Wispr Flow is

Wispr Flow is a dictation app from Wispr AI, Inc., a San Francisco company led by CEO Tanay Kothari. You hold a shortcut (Fn on a Mac, Ctrl+Win on Windows), speak, let go, and Flow pastes finished text into whatever field has the cursor. On iPhone it is a keyboard; on Android it is a floating bubble that sits beside your normal keyboard. Every dictation is transcribed on Wispr's servers, so it needs a connection on every platform (help center).

The main draw is the cleanup. Flow drops "um" and "uh", applies spoken corrections ("4 pm, actually 3 pm"), turns spoken items into lists, and writes in a Formal, Casual or Very casual style depending on whether you are in email, work chat or personal messaging. A personal dictionary and voice snippets handle names and boilerplate. Wispr's homepage claims Flow is four times faster than typing: 220 words a minute against 45.

Since August 2026 the same app also includes Notetaker, which records meetings from your computer's audio instead of sending a bot into the call and writes summaries you can query (TechCrunch) or hand to Claude and ChatGPT over MCP (Wispr). If meetings are your main need, compare it with the tools in our Otter.ai alternatives list.

What changed in 2026

Wispr had a busy and uneven year:

  • February 23: Flow launched on Android, after what Wispr calls a waitlist of hundreds of thousands, with a model for Hinglish (TechCrunch, Wispr).
  • March: Wispr dropped Delve, the compliance platform behind its earlier SOC 2 work, after Delve was accused of producing fake compliance evidence (TechCrunch); more on that below.
  • Late May to early July: outages and an accuracy drop, which Wispr's changelog acknowledged in five notes between June 4 and July 9.
  • August 5: Notetaker launched on Mac; Windows followed on September 15.
  • August 17: Wispr raised $280 million in a Series B at a $2 billion valuation, led by Menlo Ventures, bringing its total to $361 million (TechCrunch). Outlook Business, citing Reuters, reported the same terms and a valuation nearly three times the $700 million of nine months earlier (Outlook Business).
  • September 17: Flow switched every user to Canto, Wispr's own speech model.
  • October 2: model training was switched off and locked for Growth and Enterprise teams.

The spring problems matter because they explain the Canto launch. Wispr's changelog blamed early-June outages on "a combination of vendor failures and our own scaling issues", said an Auto Cleanup setting had been too aggressive for some users, and said some dictations had been handled by older models, one of them too aggressive about changing words. When the funding was announced, TechCrunch wrote that several users had complained about a quality dip in the preceding weeks. On Hacker News, a developer who works on a competing app posted a re-test of 525 fixed clips: Flow's word error rate rose from 9.0% in May to 11.2% in June (Hacker News).

Canto: Wispr's own speech model

Wispr built Canto in its new research lab, led by chief scientist Ariya Rastrow, and says it trained the model for real conditions: laptop microphones, earbuds, background voices and whispering. Its research post compares it with other speech models on Wispr's own data (Wispr AI Lab):

ModelWord error rate on 10 hours of real Flow dictationsOn a 3-hour set of hard audio
Wispr Canto3.4%9.1%
Google Gemini 3.1 Pro3.6%8.2%
OpenAI GPT Transcribe4.0%11.3%
AssemblyAI Universal-3.5 Pro4.2%13.9%
Google Gemini 3.5 Transcribe4.5%12.2%
Deepgram Nova-37.4%23.5%

All figures are Wispr's. The test set is English only, comes from users who opted into data sharing, and the post, read November 3, 2026, does not publish it, so others cannot rerun it; even its size differs between the research post (10 hours) and the changelog (9.8 hours). On public read-speech sets, Wispr says Canto tied for best on LibriSpeech and did not lead on FLEURS or Common Voice.

Canto handles speech recognition; rewriting your words is a separate step. Baseten, which sells Wispr inference, says in an undated case study that Flow used fine-tuned Llama models for that cleanup, with a target under 700 milliseconds end to end (Baseten). Wispr's public pages, checked November 3, 2026, name no other AI provider and point to the subprocessor list in its Trust Center.

Plans and what the free tier allows

From the pricing page:

PlanBilled monthlyBilled annuallyWhat it adds
Free$0$0Dictation with a weekly word cap, limited Notetaker
Pro$15 per user$12 per userUnlimited dictation, longer Notetaker history, shared dictionary and snippets, team billing
Growth$23 per user, or $33 with unlimited Notetaker$18, or $26SSO with SAML, org-wide HIPAA with a signed BAA, admin control over model training
EnterpriseNot offeredCustom priceSCIM, audit logs, MDM, model training locked off, invoicing

The pricing page describes the free tier only as "Limited words per week". The numbers are in the help center: on Mac and Windows a warning appears after 2,000 words and new dictations are blocked above 5,000; Android slows after 2,500 and stops at 3,000; iPhone slows after 550 and stops at 750. The week resets on a fixed day for everyone, unused words do not carry over, and Wispr says the allowances can differ by account. Command Mode, the voice-editing feature, needs a paid plan or trial (help center).

New accounts get a 14-day Pro trial (30 days by referral, 90 for students). Students with an .edu email get three months of Pro, then pay $6 a month billed annually (Wispr). On cancellation, Pro runs to the end of the period and the help center says there is no automatic prorated refund; the terms updated August 19, 2026 say refunds are issued only if required by law (terms).

What public tests and users report

  • Cult of Mac, January 31, 2026. After about a month, Rajesh Pandey reported accurate results through a low-gain microphone more than an arm's length away, with music playing, and when whispering in a cafe (Cult of Mac).
  • Android Police, February 25, 2026. Sanuj Bhatia wrote more than 3,000 words on Android in about a week and called it the best voice typing he had used across devices; he flagged the need for a connection (Android Police).
  • How-To Geek, April 26, 2026. In a seven-app Windows comparison, Jorge A. Aguilar measured about 800 MB of RAM at idle and an 8 to 10 second start, and saw punctuation and grammar errors in Microsoft Teams (How-To Geek). Wispr argues that cloud processing spares the battery that on-device models would drain (Wispr).
  • Superwhisper's benchmark, a competitor's test. With Flow's cleanup off, runs in August 2026 averaged 8.7% word error rate and 1.28 seconds to text over eight datasets, against 6.6% for Superwhisper's own S1 Voice and 7.8% for OpenAI GPT Transcribe (Superwhisper). The runs predate Canto.
  • Willow's benchmark, a competitor's test. Willow says Flow took about 400 milliseconds on short dictations and 900 on average-length ones in September 2026, against 190 to 230 for Willow (Willow).
  • Store ratings. On November 3, 2026 the iPhone app had 4.8 stars from about 18,700 ratings (Apple App Store data) and the Android app 4.6 from 14.5K reviews with more than a million downloads (Google Play). A September 2026 Play review praises the PC app but says Android sometimes leaves text on the clipboard instead of inserting it, a fallback Wispr's help center also describes.
  • User comparisons. On the Hacker News thread for Canto, one user who had moved through four dictation apps called Flow the least accurate of them (Hacker News).

Privacy: what leaves your device

Wispr documents its privacy controls in detail, but the defaults favour data collection. From its security overview, data-sharing article and Data Controls page:

  • Training. "Improve the model for everyone", formerly called Privacy Mode, lets Wispr use your audio, transcripts and edits to train its models. It is on by default for Free and Pro and can be switched off; it is off and locked on Growth and Enterprise. Wispr says its third-party AI providers may not train on your data.
  • Storage. Dictation cloud storage is a separate switch. With it off, Wispr says audio is discarded once transcribed (privacy page). Desktop history can be kept, deleted after 24 hours or never saved.
  • Metadata. Even with training off, Flow uploads word count, duration, app, URL, timestamp, microphone and edit statistics for each dictation.
  • Screen context. Context Awareness, on by default, reads text around the cursor, on-screen text and the app or site you are in. Wispr's help center says it works from text and does not take screenshots; with it off, the desktop app still sends the app name and website domain.
  • Where data goes. Wispr says data is processed and stored in the United States on AWS and that it offers no offline or on-premises version (enterprise privacy page). The same page says that on iPhone, "background Flow" keeps the microphone recording between dictations so you do not have to switch apps, and transcribes only when you press the button.

Two of Wispr's own statements do not line up: Data Controls says Wispr has zero data retention agreements with all third-party AI providers for dictation, while the enterprise privacy page says processors generally delete data within 30 days.

An independent forensic write-up of the Mac app, version 1.4.752, published in April 2026, matches Wispr's description more than it contradicts it: logs of the apps and websites in use, on-screen accessibility text sent with the audio, hourly metadata uploads with sharing off, and a local database holding 198 MB of audio (forensic write-up). Its database had a screenshot field that the author found unfilled. The same write-up traced 145 swallowed spacebar presses in ten minutes to Flow's keyboard hook, which watches for the dictation shortcut system-wide.

Security claims and the Delve episode

Wispr now says its SOC 2 Type II report and ISO 27001 certificate come from A-LIGN and that HIPAA-ready dictation is available on any plan with a click-through Business Associate Agreement (privacy page). Per its help center, Wispr does not countersign the BAA, and signing it locks training and cloud storage off and blocks Notetaker (help center).

These audits are new. Wispr's March 27, 2026 post says it moved from Delve to the Drata platform and hired A-LIGN to re-verify its SOC 2 and HIPAA status (Wispr). The allegations TechCrunch reported said Delve's customers were routed through audit firms that rubber-stamped reports Delve had generated; Delve disputed them (TechCrunch, March 22, 2026). Wispr's help center also says Notetaker launched after the audit periods and was not assessed, while the privacy page says the report covers every Wispr product.

For developers

On Mac and Windows, Flow recognises variable and function names visible in Cursor, Windsurf and VS Code, and turns spoken file names into @-tags in Cursor and Windsurf chat. Per the help center, variable recognition needs the IDE's screen-reader mode on, and file tagging does not work in VS Code or Copilot chat (help center). On Mac, long dictations into Claude Code and Codex in the terminal are pasted as plain text. Command Mode rewrites selected text or drafts replies by voice, and sends the text box contents to Wispr with the instruction.

Who should not use Wispr Flow

  • Anyone who needs dictation offline, on an air-gapped machine or with data kept outside the United States.
  • Lawyers, clinicians and others with strict data rules who cannot change the defaults or sign a BAA, and anyone who needs Notetaker under HIPAA.
  • People who dictate mostly on an iPhone and do not want to pay: the free cap stops at 750 words a week.
  • Owners of iPads, Linux PCs, Chromebooks or Windows on ARM laptops, which Wispr's system requirements exclude.
  • Buyers who want a one-time price or a guaranteed refund.

Alternatives and when they fit better

Prices from each product's own page, checked November 3, 2026:

ToolPriceBetter choice when
SuperwhisperFree with unlimited local Whisper models; Pro $8.49 a month, $84.99 a year or $249.99 lifetimeYou want offline dictation or to pay once; it also runs on Windows, iPhone and Android
Willow VoiceFree on a weaker model; Pro $15 a month or $12 billed annuallyYou use Mac, Windows or iPhone and want the lower latency Willow claims in its own benchmark; Android is listed as coming soon
Aqua VoiceFree for 1,000 words; Pro $12 a month or $10 billed annuallyYou want a cheaper unlimited plan on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android
VoiceInk$25 once for one MacYou use an Apple Silicon Mac and want an open-source app with no subscription
HandyFree, MIT licenceYou want fully offline dictation on Windows, macOS or Linux and can live without AI cleanup
Apple Dictation and Windows voice typingFree, built inYou dictate short messages; Apple says general dictation can be processed on the Mac itself, while Windows voice typing uses Microsoft's online speech service, with on-device cleanup on Copilot+ PCs

Wispr Flow's case against these is breadth: the same cleanup, dictionary and styles on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android, plus coding features and a meeting notetaker in one subscription. If you need privacy by default, offline use or a one-time price, one of the alternatives above fits better.
