What Mureka is

In one or two sentences, before anything else.

Mureka is the AI song generator of Kunlun Tech (昆仑万维). Its V9.5 model, out since August 2026, ranks third in Artificial Analysis's blind vocal test behind two Suno models, and its paid plans promise unlimited downloads with commercial rights while Suno caps downloads and Udio has switched them off.

Main features

What it can do, one sentence each, and whether we actually tested it.

  • V9.5 model

Generates full songs from a prompt or lyrics, with arrangement, vocals and emotion fitted to the prompt, Mureka says.

In Mureka's own 100-song test, vocals passed 61.0% of the time against 53.0% for the previous model.

  • Song-structure planning (MusiCoT)

Plans the whole song before generating audio, a method Mureka has used since its 6.0 model in March 2025.

    Mureka's description.

  • Reference track

Generates a new song in the style, mood and energy of a track you upload.

The December 2025 lawsuit objects to this feature.

  • Remix

Remixes a cappella takes, acoustic demos or instrumentals, with control over lyrics, style, lead instruments and structure.

Rebuilt on October 9, 2026, per Mureka.

  • Stems and Mureka Studio

Splits songs into up to 12 stems and edits them on a multitrack timeline.

    Premier only.

  • Mureka Co

A chat assistant that generates parts and controls Ableton Live or Reaper on macOS and Windows.

Included in Pro since July 8, 2026.

  • Music videos

Turns a song, an uploaded file or a YouTube link into a music video, planned by a chat-based MV Director since September 14, 2026.

Costs 40 Gold per second of video, per Mureka.

  • Custom singers

Saves a singer character with its own voice and avatar; Premier adds professional voice cloning.

Who it is for

The people it helps and the problems it solves, and where it ranks.

Built for

  • Creators who need downloadable songs with commercial rights now that Suno caps downloads and Udio blocks them
  • Songwriters and video makers working in Chinese as well as English
  • Producers who want stems, MIDI and a DAW link
  • Developers looking for a music-generation API

Problems it solves

  • Getting audio files to publish without a monthly download cap
  • Writing songs with lyrics in Chinese and other languages
  • Moving a generated song into a DAW as stems or MIDI
  • Making a music video for a finished track

What it is good at

Public tests other people ran: what they gave it and how it did.

  1. Case 1

In a Tom's Guide comparison published August 20, 2026 and labelled as sponsor content created with Mureka, the writer ran identical prompts on V9 and V9.5.

    Input

A restrained song with soft piano, atmospheric synths, gradual strings and an intimate male vocal that builds slowly; Indian classical devotional music; a banjo country piece that turns into future bass.

    What happened

The writer found V9.5 kept the quiet song restrained where V9 built to an unrequested climax, sounded less generic on the Indian piece and fused the two genres more smoothly. It is paid content, so treat it as promotion.

  2. Case 2

In Artificial Analysis's Music Arena v1.1 (October 2026), a recruited panel voted blind between tracks made from the same prompt.

    Input

1,000 new prompts across 17 genres, half with vocals and half instrumental (AlphaSignal's account of the launch).

    What happened

Mureka V9.5 is third on vocals with an Elo of 1107, behind Suno v6 (1146) and v6-mini (1130) and ahead of Google's Lyria 3.5 (1052). On the board captured on September 2, 2026, before Suno v6, Mureka V9 was second.

  3. Case 3

Per Mureka's August 28, 2026 post, an internal test of V9.5 against the previous model on the same 100 songs.

    Input

100 songs generated in the same round by V9.5 and by the previous baseline model, judged by Mureka.

    What happened

Mureka reports vocals passing 61.0% against 53.0%, prompt control 97.0% against 92.0% and fully expressed genre 95.7% against 84.9%, but only 28.0% of V9.5 songs judged fully usable overall. These are the vendor's numbers, and the method is not published.

Where it falls short

What it does badly, with the evidence, and what we could not settle.

Weak

Weak

  • Songs made on the free plan belong to Mureka and cannot be downloaded.

Evidence: Mureka's terms give free users only a licence for lawful, internal, non-commercial use, with a credit to Mureka, and its plan comparison, checked October 18, 2026, locks audio downloads and commercial rights on the free plan.

  • Mureka keeps broad rights to every song, paid or not.

Evidence: All users grant Mureka a royalty-free, irrevocable licence to use their output, including commercially, and to use their username, image, voice and likeness; Mureka does not guarantee copyright registration.

  • The models face a copyright class action.

Evidence: Independent musicians sued Kunlun Tech and Skywork AI in Illinois on December 17, 2025, alleging Mureka copied their recordings and compositions to train its models (Bloomberg Law).

  • By Mureka's own count, most V9.5 songs are not fully usable.

Evidence: In its 100-song internal test, Mureka judged 28.0% of V9.5 songs fully usable overall, against 25.0% for the previous model.

  • Who should not use it now: businesses that need music cleared for brands, broadcast or distribution deals.

Evidence: We found no label or publisher licence behind Mureka's models, unlike Suno and Udio, and the Illinois case is unresolved.

Uncertain

Uncertain

  • What Mureka's models were trained on.

Why unsure: Kunlun Tech has not published its training data, we found no licence with labels or publishers, and the lawsuit's claims of unlicensed copying have not been tested in court.

  • Whether the O3 model is available.

Why unsure: Yicai reported that Kunlun released V9.5 and O3 in July 2026, but Mureka's plan page lists V9.5, V9, V8, O2 and V7.6, not O3.

Common questions

Answer first, then why, an example, the limits and what to do next.

Which company makes Mureka?

Mureka is made by the Chinese company Kunlun Tech (昆仑万维), whose website lists Mureka as its AI music and audio platform. Bloomberg Law names Kunlun Tech and its Singapore company Skywork AI as the operators, and Mureka's terms say the service is run from Singapore under Singapore law.

Can I use Mureka songs commercially?

Yes, on a paid plan: Mureka's terms give paying users ownership of what they generate, and its plan page promises full commercial rights and unlimited MP3 downloads on Pro. Free users get only an internal, non-commercial licence and must credit Mureka. Mureka still keeps a royalty-free licence to use every song, and it does not guarantee you can register copyright.

Is Mureka better than Suno?

Not in blind listening tests: Artificial Analysis ranks Mureka V9.5 third for vocals with an Elo of 1107, behind Suno v6 at 1146 and v6-mini at 1130. Mureka is ahead on downloads, with no monthly cap on Pro against Suno's 20, at the same 10 USD monthly price.

Is Mureka a good alternative now that Suno and Udio restrict downloads?

Mureka is the strongest option for people who need audio files: it ranks third in the blind vocal test, and its paid plans list unlimited downloads with commercial rights. Udio allows no downloads at all, and Suno caps them at 20 or 60 a month. The trade-off is legal: Suno and Udio have label licences, while we found none for Mureka, and it faces a copyright class action.

Is Mureka being sued?

Yes, independent musicians filed a proposed class action against Kunlun Tech and Skywork AI over Mureka on December 17, 2025, in federal court in Illinois. They allege Mureka copied their recordings and compositions to train its models; their lawyers say the claims include copyright, the DMCA and Illinois's biometric privacy law. We found no ruling yet.

Who owns songs made on Mureka's free plan?

Mureka owns songs made on the free plan, under its terms dated October 18, 2024. Free users may use them only for lawful, internal, non-commercial purposes and must credit Mureka. Free songs cannot be downloaded: the plan comparison locks downloads and commercial rights on the free plan. Mureka's plan FAQ says commercial rights, including for songs made before you upgrade, apply only while a subscription is active.

What the public tests show

This page is built from Mureka's plan page, terms, update log and blog, Kunlun Tech's own announcements, reporting by Yicai and Bloomberg Law, the blind listening leaderboard run by Artificial Analysis, and one sponsored comparison published by Tom's Guide. Every fact links to its source, and we checked each one on October 17, 2026.

According to AICPB's traffic rankings, mureka.ai had 5.2 million visits in September 2026, up 54.1% on August: 2nd among AI music generators and 11th on the fastest-growing list.

What Mureka is

Mureka belongs to the Chinese company Kunlun Tech (昆仑万维), whose site lists it as its AI music and audio platform (Kunlun Tech). Kunlun runs it with its Singapore subsidiary Skywork AI (Bloomberg Law), under Singapore law (terms). It has moved up quickly in 2026: three new models in eight months, and on the Artificial Analysis vocal board it is the only maker besides Suno in the top three.

What public tests show

  • Blind panel. On the Artificial Analysis vocal board, Mureka V9.5 is third with an Elo of 1107, behind Suno v6 (1146) and v6-mini (1130) and ahead of Google's Lyria 3.5 (1052) (Artificial Analysis). On the instrumental board AlphaSignal reports V9.5 and V9 statistically tied for third to sixth (AlphaSignal). Before Suno v6, the board captured on September 2, 2026 had Mureka V9 second, 11 points behind Suno V5.5 (BenchmarkList).
  • Sponsored comparison. Tom's Guide published a V9 against V9.5 test labelled as sponsor content created with Mureka. On identical prompts its writer found V9.5 kept a quiet piano song quiet where V9 built to an unrequested climax, and fused banjo country with future bass more smoothly (Tom's Guide).
  • Mureka's own numbers. In a 100-song internal test, Mureka reports V9.5's vocals passing 61.0% of the time against 53.0% for the previous model, but only 28.0% of songs judged fully usable overall (Mureka). The method is not published.

The lawsuit

On December 17, 2025, independent musicians filed a proposed class action against Kunlun Tech and Skywork AI over Mureka in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, case 1:25-cv-15354 (Bloomberg Law, ChatGPT Is Eating the World). Their lawyers say the complaint claims copyright infringement, DMCA violations and breaches of Illinois's biometric privacy law, and objects to reference-track uploads that let users imitate songs (Loevy + Loevy). We found no ruling yet.

Who should wait

  • Businesses that need music cleared for brands or broadcast: we found no label licence behind Mureka's models, and the Illinois case is open.
  • Free users who want to publish: free songs belong to Mureka.
  • People who need the best-rated sound: Suno v6 still leads the blind test, if you can live with its download cap.
