Kie.ai vs Higgsfield: API or studio for Veo, Kling, Seedance
Published · Updated
Kie.ai is a pay-per-call API for developers who want Veo 3.1, Kling, Seedance and other models behind one key, with credits that never expire. Higgsfield is a subscription web studio for creators and teams, with a separate API that undercuts Kie.ai on some models, such as Kling 3.0.
Side by side
The same dimensions for both, one per row. Each fact about either product carries its source and the date we checked it.
Kie.ai is a credit-based API service, run by two Denver LLCs, that sells access to other companies' video, image, music and language models at prices well below the makers' own, such as Veo 3.1 Quality at $1.275 per 1080p clip against Google's $3.20. It does not say how it obtains that access.
Higgsfield AI is a paid web platform from Higgsfield Inc. that runs more than 30 image and video models from other companies, including Veo 3.1, Kling 3.0 and Seedance, beside its own tools, with a limited free tier and paid credit plans from US$19 a month. In February 2026 it drew public complaints over 'unlimited' plans and creator payouts.

How you pay (credits, expiry, refunds)
Pay-as-you-go credits with no subscription; credits never expire; refunds "supported if needed" by email, with no conditions or time window stated.Kie.ai's per-model prices work out to about 200 credits per US dollar (60 credits is listed as about 0.30 USD); a 1,250 USD top-up adds 10% bonus credits, per its homepage FAQ.
Monthly or yearly plans whose credits expire at the end of each billing period (add-on credits after 90 days); refunds only on request within 7 days of the first purchase, never on renewals. The API at open.higgsfield.ai is billed separately from a dollar balance, and its docs say only successful generations are billed.
A Free column marked "limited use" in the plan comparison: one video job at a time, with Veo 3.1, Kling 3.0 and Seedance 2.x marked not included and no monthly credits listed. Cheapest plan: Starter, 19 USD a month for 270 credits.Plus is 59 USD a month (47 billed yearly) for 1,200 credits; Ultra 129 USD (99 billed yearly) for 3,000.
255 credits, about 1.275 USD, per clip of up to 8 seconds for Google's standard Veo 3.1 (Kie.ai calls it Quality); Veo 3.1 Fast is 65 credits, about 0.325 USD.
About 40 credits per 4 seconds in the web studio, about 1.97 USD at the Plus plan's monthly rate; Veo 3.1 Fast about 16 credits (about 0.79 USD). Not included on Free or Starter.USD figures are arithmetic from 59 USD for 1,200 credits; on Ultra billed yearly (99 USD for 3,000) the 4-second clip is about 1.32 USD. Veo 3.1 is not in the Higgsfield API's model catalogue.
0.14 USD at 480p, 0.315 USD at 720p, 0.79 USD at 1080p (text or image input; video input is billed differently).Kie.ai labels these prices beta and subject to change.
From 0.1448 USD at 480p to 0.7961 USD at 1080p, shown as 30% off list prices of 0.2068 and 1.1372 USD.Higgsfield bills Seedance by video tokens, so the per-second figure depends on output size.
Video (Veo 3.1 Lite, Fast and Quality, Kling 3.0, Seedance 2.5, Wan 3.0, MiniMax H3, Grok Imagine Video 1.5), images (Nano Banana Pro, GPT Image 2 and 2.5, Seedream 5.0), Suno V6 music and language models such as Claude Opus 5.5 and Gemini 4 Argon; no Sora.A Kling 4.0 page has a playground but no published price.
Web studio: Veo 3.1, Kling 3.0, Seedance 2.5, Wan 3.0, Hailuo 2.3, Nano Banana Pro, Seedream, FLUX.2 and others, plus Higgsfield's own Soul 2.0, DoP, Cinema Studio and Speak tools; no language-model API.Its API lists Seedance, Kling, Wan, MiniMax, Grok Imagine and Higgsfield's own models, but not Veo or Nano Banana.

Removed content may stay on active servers for 30 days, and a deleted account can be restored for 30 days; API output files are kept at least 7 days. The 7-day API figure is from Higgsfield's API docs.
API: 2 concurrent generations for a new account, 10 after adding 25 USD in the past 28 days, 20 after 100 USD, 40 after 1,000 USD.Web plans: 1 concurrent video job on Free, 2 on Starter, 6 on Plus and 8 on Ultra, per the pricing page.
Pick Higgsfield if you work in a browser and want camera, lens and genre controls (Cinema Studio) rather than writing code.
Pick Higgsfield if you produce a steady volume every month and will use up plan credits before they expire, including the 7-day unlimited offers on Plus and Ultra.
Pick Higgsfield if your team needs a shared workspace and credit pool with admin spending controls and SSO (Business, 2 to 15 seats).
Pick Higgsfield's API if you call Kling 3.0 at volume: 0.042 USD a second for Standard text-to-video against 0.07 on Kie.ai, while the discount lasts.
Pick Higgsfield if you want its own models, such as Soul 2.0 images, Genjutsu motion transfer and Speak lip sync, which Kie.ai does not list.

OpenAI removed the Sora 2 models and its Videos API on September 24, 2026, six months after notifying developers on March 24, and named no replacement.
Higgsfield's guide of October 3, 2026 says Sora 2 is no longer part of the Higgsfield model lineup and points users to Seedance 2.5, Kling 3.0 or Veo 3.1.
Higgsfield's subscription and API are separate products: plan credits and unlimited offers do not apply to the API, which runs on its own dollar balance with a 5 USD minimum top-up.
In February 2026 Higgsfield faced complaints over delayed creator payouts and promo videos with deepfakes of public figures; it blamed a coordinated campaign and said it refunded affected users.
What each does badly, with the evidence, and what no public test has settled yet.
Weak
Weak
Kie.ai: public reliability complaints.
Evidence: Trustpilot gives it 2.1 out of 5 from 16 reviews, 81% one star (October 18, 2026). The newest, from October 2, 2026, says generations often get stuck; earlier 2026 reviews report jobs stuck at 99% and hours of 500 errors.
Kie.ai: says nothing about how it gets model access or what happens to your prompts.
Evidence: Its homepage, About page and terms make no reseller or partner claim, the terms say the brands shown "do not imply any endorsement", and the privacy policy covers only your email address.
Higgsfield: the cheaper tiers leave out the headline models.
Evidence: The plan comparison marks Veo 3.1, Kling 3.0 above 720p and Seedance 2.0 (except Fast) as not included on Starter, and Veo 3.1, Kling 3.0 and Seedance 2.x as not included on Free; Veo 3.1 starts at Plus, 59 USD a month.
Higgsfield: plan credits expire and refunds are narrow.
Evidence: Its terms expire subscription credits at the end of each billing period and add-on credits after 90 days, and allow refund requests only within 7 days of the first purchase, never on renewals.
Higgsfield: trains on what you upload and generate.
Evidence: Section 4.4 of the terms updated July 26, 2026 allows training on your content, inputs and outputs until you delete them, and the privacy policy shares content with third-party model and compute providers.
Uncertain
Uncertain
Whether either serves the exact model and version named.
Why unsure: No public test has compared Kie.ai's or Higgsfield's outputs with the same prompts sent to Google's, Kling's or ByteDance's own APIs, and Kie.ai's homepage mentions "smart fallback routing" without explaining it.
Which is cheaper per usable clip.
Why unsure: Shopiator, Blotato and an AI Builders Community thread reach opposite conclusions from list prices alone; none counted failed or regenerated clips on both.
How long the API prices hold.
Why unsure: Higgsfield's API shows its prices as 30% to 60% discounts on list prices, and Kie.ai labels its Seedance 2.5 prices beta; neither says how long they will last.
Whether Higgsfield's credit table is up to date.
Why unsure: On October 18, 2026 its pricing page still listed Sora 2 credit costs, although Higgsfield's own October 3 guide says Sora 2 is no longer in its lineup.
What the public tests show
This comparison uses each company's pricing pages, terms and docs as checked on October 18, 2026, three published price comparisons, one community thread digest and Trustpilot. The full pages are Kie.ai and Higgsfield.
According to AICPB's traffic rankings, kie.ai had 3.1 million visits in September 2026 (2nd among AI model routers) and Higgsfield 42.8 million (1st among AI video generators).
Two ways to buy the same models
Both sell access to other companies' video and image models. Kie.ai is an API with pay-as-you-go credits that never expire. Higgsfield is mainly a subscription web studio that also runs a separate pay-as-you-go API at open.higgsfield.ai with its own dollar balance; plan credits do not work there. So the honest comparison has two halves: Kie.ai's API against Higgsfield's API, and Kie.ai's per-call prices against what a Higgsfield plan works out to.
On the price pages today, Kie.ai is cheaper for Veo 3.1, which Higgsfield sells only in its studio and only from the Plus plan up. By API, Seedance 2.5 costs almost the same on both (0.14 against 0.1448 USD a second at 480p), and Kling 3.0 Standard is cheaper on Higgsfield (0.042 against 0.07 USD a second) while its discount lasts. Both measure their savings against fal: Kie.ai's pricing table labels its comparison column "Official / Fal Price", and Higgsfield's API page compares with fal prices observed in September 2026.
What published comparisons say
No public test has run the same prompts through both services. The comparisons that exist work from list prices, and they disagree:
Shopiator (Santosh Kumar, updated September 15, 2026) put Higgsfield's Plus plan at 0.049 USD a credit and found Kie.ai far cheaper for Veo 3 Fast (0.30 USD for 8 seconds against about 1.96 to 3.43 USD) and for Sora 2, but slightly dearer for a 5-second Kling 3.0 Standard clip (about 0.35 against 0.29 USD). The article carries affiliate links, and its Sora figures stopped applying when OpenAI shut the Sora 2 API on September 24.
Blotato (Sabrina Ramonov, its founder; updated September 30, 2026) reached the opposite verdict: at matched 1080p, Kie.ai costs two to four times more per clip than a fully used Plus plan. Its Higgsfield figure rests on the plan card's estimate of about 53 Seedance 2.0 videos, which names no resolution; Higgsfield's own table prices a 5-second Seedance 2.0 clip at about 22 credits at 720p and about 60 at 1080p. Its Kie.ai Seedance 2.5 rate (0.085 USD a second) is the rate with a video input; text-only is 0.14.
A thread in the AI Builders Community (digest of May 16, 2026): member @expadz listed Kie.ai at 0.77 and 1.65 USD per 10 seconds at 480p and 720p against 0.65 and 1.52 on Higgsfield, with Poyo cheaper but unstable, and the thread leaned to Kie.ai for use without a subscription. The digest does not name the model.
Higgsfield's own blog (October 13, 2026) compares only its API with its plans: 300 eight-second 720p clips a month cost 403.20 USD through the API and would need 9,600 plan credits, more than its largest individual plan.
What the comparisons leave out
None counts failed or regenerated clips, which decide the real cost per usable video. Hack'celeration's 30-day Higgsfield test counted 200+ wasted credits, and Kie.ai's Trustpilot reviewers report jobs stuck at 99% and hours of errors; Kie.ai says credits for failed tasks are returned. On Trustpilot the samples are very different: 16 reviews for Kie.ai (2.1) against 5,062 for Higgsfield (4.0). Google suggests "kie ai vs higgsfield reddit", but no Reddit thread comparing the two turned up in searches on October 18, 2026.
The trade-off, said plainly
Kie.ai is a meter for developers: one key, prices per call, credits that never expire, and Veo 3.1 at a lower price, but thin terms, no stated sourcing and a poor reliability record on Trustpilot. Higgsfield is a studio for creators: a browser workspace with its own camera tools and team features, plan credits that expire every month, and an API that is cheaper than Kie.ai on Kling 3.0 and level on Seedance 2.5 while its discounts last. If you write code and generate unevenly, Kie.ai fits; if you create in a browser every week or need a shared team pool, Higgsfield fits. If what happens to your uploads matters more than price, neither is a comfortable choice: Higgsfield trains on your inputs and outputs, and Kie.ai's policies say nothing about them.
Common questions
Answer first, then why, an example, the limits and what to do next.
Is Kie.ai cheaper than Higgsfield?
Kie.ai is cheaper for Veo 3.1, while Higgsfield's API is cheaper for Kling 3.0 and about the same for Seedance 2.5. A 1080p Veo 3.1 clip of up to 8 seconds costs about 1.275 USD on Kie.ai, against about 40 credits for 4 seconds on Higgsfield (about 1.97 USD at the Plus plan's monthly rate). By API, Kling 3.0 Standard costs 0.042 USD a second on Higgsfield and 0.07 on Kie.ai, and Seedance 2.5 at 480p costs 0.1448 against 0.14.
Limits
Higgsfield's API prices are shown as discounts on list prices, and the subscription figure assumes you use every credit before it expires.
Is Kie.ai or Higgsfield free?
Neither offers more than a small free start. Kie.ai gives new accounts 80 credits, enough for one 720p Veo 3.1 Fast clip; Higgsfield's pricing page shows a Free column marked "limited use" that excludes Veo 3.1, Kling 3.0 and Seedance 2.x, and its paid plans start at 19 USD a month for 270 credits.
Does Higgsfield have an API like Kie.ai?
Higgsfield sells a pay-as-you-go API at open.higgsfield.ai, billed separately from its subscriptions. The API runs on its own dollar balance with a 5 USD minimum top-up, starts new accounts at 2 concurrent generations and lists Seedance, Kling, Wan and Higgsfield's own models, but not Veo 3.1; Kie.ai's API also covers Veo 3.1, Suno and language models.
Is Kie.ai legit compared with Higgsfield?
Both are working paid services, but Higgsfield discloses more about itself and has far more public reviews. Kie.ai is run by two LLCs at a Denver address, does not say how it gets model access and scores 2.1 from 16 Trustpilot reviews; Higgsfield Inc. of San Francisco scores 4.0 from 5,062 reviews but drew complaints in February 2026 over "unlimited" plans and creator payouts.
Can I still use Sora 2 on Kie.ai or Higgsfield?
Sora 2 is not offered on either service after OpenAI shut down the Sora 2 API on September 24, 2026. Higgsfield's guide of October 3, 2026 says Sora 2 is no longer part of its lineup, and Kie.ai's homepage does not list Sora.
Do Kie.ai and Higgsfield use my uploads to train AI?
Higgsfield's terms allow it to train its models on your inputs and outputs, while Kie.ai's terms do not mention training. Higgsfield's section 4.4 covers your content, inputs and outputs until you delete them, with enterprise agreements excluded; Kie.ai's terms license your content only for operating and improving its services, and its privacy policy does not cover prompts or uploads.
